Adaptation of Camel
Hi!! I would like to tell you about adaptation of camel. Why I chose camel? because, I got this assignment in Ramadhan. The month of Ramadhan is identical with camel, right?
And these are some adaptations of camel :
- There are two types of camel: 1.a Camels with two humps, Bactrian camels. 1.b Camels with one hump, Arabic camels.
- Camels have two rows of long eyelashes to help protect them against the desert sand.
- They can close their nostrils, also for the purpose of keeping out sand.
- Camels lips are thick and leathery, which enables them to eat prickly desert plants without it hurting their mouths.
- Camels have hair covering their ears to prevent sand clogging them.
- Camels have long neck which enables them to reach and feed on the leaves high up on tall trees and bushes. This vegetation is normally too high up for other animals to reach. Some scientists have suggested
- Camels store notwater in their humps. When they do access water, they can drink up to 46 litres of water in one session. Camels can survive 30 days without food and 2 weeks without water.
- Camel hair protects their skin from the harsh desert sun and keeps them warm in the icy desert nights. Camel need hair, because without hair, surprisingly, they would sweat too much. the hair is thick and reflects off the suns rays. The fur is actually important. The colour of their bodies helps them to blend into their environment. Camels have a bare, hairless underbelly that helps them keep cool when lying on the sand.
- Their legs are long and strong, and their feet are split hooves with broad pads which splay out over the desert sand for more stability, preventing them from sinking into the sand.
- The long tail help camel flicks away the flies.
